18 km elevated road from one bridge
to another may undo 20 traffic knots

In three years, more than 20 lakh commuters could well be driving in comfort along the Yamuna, going from Signature Bridge in Wazirabad to the DND flyway at Mayur Vihar. The Public Works Department is all set to link the two sites with an elevated expressway that will ease traffic past 20 spots that currently impede a smooth drive for commuters.

The `2, 500-crore corridor is being planned with the traffic growth in mind. It will first connect Signature Bridge with the Salimgarh Fort bypass and then go to ITO before merging with DND. The 18-km long stretch will be signal-free and will have six lanes. “The distance between the two points is least 25km, but the elevated expressway reduces it to 18 km,” said a PWD official. “So, it is not only the waiting time at traffic bottlenecks that will be reduced, but the overall drive time too.”

PWD proposes to build the road parallel to Outer Ring Road near Majnu Ka Tila and parallel to Ring Road in the proximity of Sarai Kale Khan. Along the way, it will connect several bridges over the Yamuna-Signature bridge, Loha Pul, Geeta Colony bridge, Vikas Marg, Nizamuddin bridge, the Barapullah Phase-iii elevated road and the DND Flyway.

PWD plans to complete the project in two phases. In the first phase, an elevated road will be constructed between Signature Bridge and Salimgarh Fort bypass (also called the Ring Road bypass). In the second phase, this road will be extended to DND flyway. The work will accordingly start with PWD decongesting the area from Signature Bridge up to Hanuman temple at Yamuna Bazaar.

The initial plan was to explore the possibility of connecting the elevated corridor with various bridges and roads, but this was scrapped after senior officials felt such a plant would hinder the movement of traffic. “The initial plan connecting the expressway to existing roads would have reduced the total distance to 12 km, but ensuring minimal connection with the existing roads by constructing the elevated expressway running parallel to the Yamuna stretched it by 6km,” the official said.

At the moment, the feasibility tests are being conducted along the proposed length to ensure that the aspects of the project as planned by the senior officials fit the bill. PWD officials disclosed that they are in the process of acquiring various permissions so that the construction work can start immediately once the tests are over.

A pre-feasibility study of the project was carried out in mid2018 where it was determined that the proposal to construct an elevated road to decongest the two Ring Roads was plausible.

The feasibility report will have a detailed design plan of the project, with information about all the possible loops on the elevated corridor for integration with other roads and bridges. The consultant will also be checking if a double-decker road can be constructed to allow for a cycle away from vehicular traffic under the main corridor.

व हरियाणा के लागों को सफर होगा आसान

दिल्ली सरकार का लोक निर्माण विभाग (Public Works Department) देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में तकरीबन 2500 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से 18 किलोमीटर लंबा एलिवेटेड पुल बनाने जा रहा है। इस पुल के बनने से न केवल दिल्ली, बल्कि एनसीआर के शहरों सोनीपत, नोएडा, गाजियाबाद, गुरुग्राम और फरीदाबाद आने-जाने में भी आसानी होगी। इससे काफी हद तक जाम का झंझट खत्म हो जाएगा। जानकारी के लिए लोगों का सफर आसान बनाने के लिए PWD ने करीब 18 किमी एलिवेटेड एक्सप्रेस-वे बनाने का प्लान तैयार किया है। योजना का अमलीजामा पहनाने की कड़ी में फिजिबिलिटी रिपोर्ट भी तैयार कराई जा रही है।

योजना के मुताबिक, 18 किलोमीटर एलिवेटेड रोड के निर्माण पर करीब 2500 करोड़ रुपये का खर्च आएगा। यह पुल 6 लेन का होगा और इसकी ऊंचाई जमीन से कई जगहों पर 20-22 मीटर तक होगी, इसलिए यहां पर अतिक्रमण की गुंजाइश नहीं के बराबर होगी। इसका सबसे बड़ा लाभ यह होगा कि यहां पर ट्रैफिक लगातार चलता रहेगा।

इन शहरों के लोगों का सफर होगा आसान
पीडब्ल्यूडी के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, इस 18 किलोमीटर एलिवेटेड पुल से सोनीपत, नोएडा, फरीदाबाद और दक्षिणी दिल्ली के यात्रियों का सफर सुगम हो जाएगा। गौरतलब है कि फिलहाल राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग (National Highway-2)से सोनीपत और हरियाणा के दूसरे शहरों से उत्तरी दिल्ली में आवागमन अधिक होता है। यात्रा के दौरान लोग यहां से आउटर रिंग रोड होते हुए दक्षिणी दिल्ली, आइटीओ, नोएडा और फिर फरीदाबाद की ओर जाते हैं। ऐसे में वाहनों की अधिक संख्या से जाम भी लगता है।

जाम से मिलेगी निजात
एलिवेटेड रोड बनने से सबसे बड़ा लाभ यह होगा कि सोनीपत से फरीदाबाद जाने वाले लोग सीधे इस एलिवेटेड पुल से डीएनडी फ्लाइओवर होते हुए जा सकेंगे। ठीक ऐसे ही सोनीपत से नोएडा जाने के लिए भी यह एलिवेटेड पुल लोगों की राह आसान करेगा। सबसे अच्छा तो यह होगा कि एक्सप्रेस-वे बनने के बाद आउटर रिंग रोड और सिग्रेचर ब्रिज पर ट्रैफिक का दबाव भी घट जाएगा। इससे दोनों सड़कों पर जाम नहीं के बराबर होगा।

कई स्थानों पर होगी कनेक्टिविटी
18 किलोमीटर का प्रस्तावति एलिवेटेड पुल सिग्नेचर ब्रिज के पास आउटर रिंग रोड से गोपालपुर गावं के पास जुड़ेगा। इससे आगे यह यमुना फ्लड प्लेन एरिया और आउटर रिंग रोड के बीच समानांतर आगे बढ़ेगा। इसके बाद सलीमगढ़ फोर्ट के पास सड़क से जुड़ जाएगा। यहां से राजघाट के पास बनीं समाधियों के पीछे से निकलकर आईटीओ पुल और फिर डीएनडी फ्लाइओवर में जाकर मिल जाएगी। गोपालपुर गांव के पास से डीएनडी फ्लाइओवर तक रोड की कुल लंबाई करीब 18 किलोमीटर आंकी गई है।
