What went wrong with our economy???

What went wrong with our economy when compared to China isn’t very difficult to decipher.

1. Barring a few examples like Two Wheelers Industry, our manufacturing sector did not invest in R&D.

2. We preferred to get simple products from China and trade them. For traders, it is an easy way to make money.

2. We gravitated towards trading of our cyber coolies because it gave us relatively easy money. We didn’t super train our cyber coolies to become world-class software engineers.

3. Even in cyberspace, we did not use our software power to create world-class companies like Microsoft, etc.

4. We were reveling that we learned English from the British Rulers and the Chinese couldn’t. China realized its weakness in English and, therefore, didn’t venture much into the software. But China instead invested in R&D to create a robust manufacturing sector. Consequently, China supplies us phones, laptops, solar panels, and computers which don’t need critical science and technology.

5. You would be surprised to know that China encourages its students to do informal research work with top professors of the Ivy League schools. Chinese students pay the full fees, attend classes, and just work without expecting any degree because they don’t meet the standards of admission. But they want to take back home the knowledge and skills from top professors. Which country or people would finance such informal research work without a degree? It’s like being EKLAVYA.

6. China also heavily invested in education and now reaping huge dividends.

I am not saying that we didn’t do anything in the last 30 years.

Two Big Things we did-

1. We did bring millions of poor above the poverty line, which is a huge success.

2. We saved and flourished our democracy.

But let’s recognize that India has capacity to move forward.
