For three decades, the same argument was being made that labor-based industries could not flourish due to changes in these laws. While the change in laws in other Asian countries showed positive effects.<\/p>\n

Now there have been changes in the labor laws which wanted reforms to be supported. The 29 central laws were consolidated into four codes: The law relating to payrolls was passed last year, while the three codes for working conditions, social security and industrial relations were codified last month. These codes give traders more freedom in terms of retrenchment of employees, etc. While the claims of representation of labor organizations will be tested once again as the strike and lockouts have become difficult. Companies with less than 300 employees do not even need a standing order that relates to the conduct standard of employees.<\/p>\n

The government has also been given considerable freedom to keep industries out of the purview of the codes and set limits on their functioning. In a way, Parliament has given full authority to the government to do whatever it wants. Whether the new codes will stand the test by providing additional employment, later, we must first believe that they have made things easier keeping in mind the contemporary reality. In this, criminal liability has been abolished in many places and arrangements have been made to pay fines in their place. The scope of the codes has also been broadened to include fixed-term employees, contract workers, migrant workers, and unorganized sector employees. Still the real test will be employment growth. Especially in the organized sector where productivity and salary allowances are better.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
