It may prove to be very beneficial for farmers. Using Melia as a raw material, the quality and strength of the finished product can be for better. For its cultivation both industrialists and farmers will have to cooperate with each other. Experts believe that this is a ten-year process. Ply Insight is trying to create awareness among farmers and industrialists for the cultivation of Melia and its use in industry, which will encourage its cultivation. In this sequence, we present a talk with Ashok Juneja, General Secretary, Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>What are the prospectus of Melia Dubia?<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Until &amp; unless Melia is available in mass quantity in the market, how can we assess the compatibility? Transformation from other states may not be feasible. Local farmers are also comfortable with poplar and safeda. Let FRI and other forest institutions put their efforts to popularize it if there is more profit in farming of Melia.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Melia is supposed to have qualities of soft wood and hard wood?<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Poplar and safeda are freely available to industries. Market had already accepted the plywood made from the two species. It is marketed as best plywood available in Indian market. Hence changing the proposition is not so easy until and unless Melia is proved to be economical along with better quality.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Melia is considered to have better quality. <\/strong><\/span><br \/>At present popular is marketed between 800-1000. Demand and supply is normal. Farmers and industrialist are accustomed to the nature and quality of the both raw materials. If Melia is to be promoted, FRI should harvest it in their own capacity, for industrial trial.
