Four units sealed, chaos among operators<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Small Plywood Manufacturers Association of Punjab had filed a petition in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana alleging that extra presses and machineries have been installed than licensed capacity in many plywood units in Punjab.<\/strong> Extra plywood is being produced in a wrong way, it alleged. Advocate for the association DS Gandhi told the court that this is a big fraud. In which tax evasion is also taking place. The petitioner had also accused the Punjab Forest Department that due to their negligence and collusion, the fraudulent activities is going on.<\/p>\n

On 19.08.2021<\/strong> In the High Court, Kulraj Singh Forest Officer Hariana (Hoshiarpur Punjab) presented the report on behalf of Hoshiarpur Forest Division. In which he briefed that a total of 196 licenses have been issued to WBI in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. In the survey conducted by the Punjab Forest Department, 32 units were found to be in violation of applicable rules. Out of this, four units were running without any license. All the four units were sealed by The forest department. The excess machines which were installed in seven units have been dismantled. Sealing orders have been issued to the rest of the 20 units.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the same lines, action has also been taken in Pathankot area.<\/p>\n

There are 13 WBI in Pathankot. Two of them don’t have proper licence. They have approached court and the case is pending. Five units were found with excess machineries which were dismantled by DFO Pathankot.<\/p>\n

The High Court noted that though one of the firms had approached to the court against this action, with further prayer for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the respondents to grant license\/registration to the petitioner for enhanced machinery. His application was disposed off on August 13 wherein the authorities have been directed to take action only after affording an opportunity of hearing to the effected firm. Therefore, before further proceeding, it has been ordered to issue appropriate notice to the concerned unit.<\/p>\n

The next hearing of the case has now been fixed on 11.October. 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before the hearing on this date, the Forest Department was ordered to file the status report.<\/p>\n
