After the Covid epidemic, India is becoming an important pillar of global recovery with rapid economic growth. India has recently materialized Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the United Arab Emirates and Australia. India is now committed to accelerated progress in FTA negotiations with the UK and beyond that with the European Union. This means that the doors of India are rapidly opening up for global trade and business.<\/p>\n

At present, UAE is India’s third largest trading partner and second largest export center after the US.<\/p>\n

The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement were also signed in a virtual ceremony. Talks were going on between the two countries for ten years on this. After the implementation of the India-Australia FTA, about 96 percent of India’s exports to Australia and about 85 percent of Australia’s exports to India can be done with duty exemption.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the two-day visit of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to India, the FTA talks between the two countries, which started last January, were reviewed. The review has set a target of completing an interim agreement of the FTA by Diwali. Rapid progress is being made in this direction.<\/p>\n

After the realization of FTA with UAE and Australia by India, now the progress of FTA talks with EU, UK, Canada, six countries of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), South Africa, USA and Israel is a matter of relief. These are the countries with which FTA is more beneficial for India. These countries are eager to open their markets for India’s specialty products. With this, Indian goods and services will be accessible to a very large market in the world.<\/p>\n

India’s policy of entering into FTAs \u200b\u200bwith major countries appears to be beneficial instead of engaging in large regional trade agreements dominated by China. It is to be known that due to its business interests, India did not consider it appropriate to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest trade agreement which came into existence in November 2020. The policy adopted by India to move forward on the FTA’s path after keeping distance from RCEP, seems to be yielding good results. There is no doubt that in recent years, the more confusion have arisen in the world trade negotiations under the WTO, the faster the FTAs \u200b\u200bbetween different countries have grown. FTAs are agreements in which two or more countries agree to give preference to each other in provisions related to customs duties, regulatory laws, subsidies and quotas, etc., on the import and export of goods and services. India has made rapid strides towards FTAs \u200b\u200bto gain similar benefits.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It can also play an important role in achieving the goal of making India a five trillion dollar economy. This is why the economic policy establishment is taking these agreements seriously.<\/p>\n
