Formalin is a dilute solution in water of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is manufactured from methanol and this methanol is in very short supply in India. Though there is some production it is mostly imported from China and Arab countries.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The production of methanol has either decreased or remained stagnant in India in spite of huge demand in India and all over the world. it is surprising that in spite of the Make in India program. India is not increasing its production capacity, in fact all the manufacturing facilities are under utilised. Natural gas is being imported, hence the cost increases. Technology for conversion of coal to gas for manufacture of methanol is not efficient enough in India, making it costly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moreover other cost of electricity labour taxes and government policies are not favourable for positioning methanol manufacture in India on the world map.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is a basic cause of the loss of the competitive edge of India in the world. In spite of entrepreneur skills and willingness of the business class, the repercussions and losses to all the upscale industries including wood based industry is high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The government must develop a policy and facilitate the production of basic chemicals like methanol on world class, scale and quality, leading to competitiveness in all other industries for exports and benefit the customers and consumers in India too.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This will not only benefit many industries in India but also position India on the world map and earn lots of dollars for India. Increase in exports will help in the appreciation of rupee against the dollar leading to enhanced cost reduction of raw materials to the finished product.
