The Finance Minister had argued behind this that if the number of taxpayer&#8217;s increases, then the tax collection will also increase and eventually the way for reduction in tax rates will also be opened. But can&#8217;t the collection be increased in the opposite way? That is, will lower tax rates not lead to more and more taxpayers coming forward to pay? In fact, keeping tax rates low can bring many more benefits and solve many other growing problems. The reduction in consumption expenditure and continued cash flow in the financial system are such problems. In fact they are related to each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>At present, the situation is that even the taxpayers who have not shown any hesitation in paying the tax are not able to muster the courage to spend more than about 18 percent on the products of everyday use. Consumers are paying cash instead.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Consider an example. People often keep repairing their homes. In this work, three main ingredients are needed in these work. These materials are ply wood, cement and paint. Assume that the repair of the house will cost Rs. 3 lakhs. If the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is to be paid at the rate of 18 per cent, then the total expenditure will be Rs 3.54 lakh. With GST, Rs 3.74 lakh will be spent on the repair of the house, but if the entire payment is made in cash, only Rs 3 lakh will go out of pocket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The economy of the country has become sluggish due to the Kovid-19 epidemic and its effect is full on the income of the people. The earnings of most people have decreased after the Covid epidemic. In these challenging circumstances, the government cannot expect people to spend more on consumption. How will a customer be able to ascertain whether the shopkeeper is able to pay GST or whether he will put the amount taken in his pocket or pay tax to the government?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The customer can demand the bill from the shopkeeper along with the GST number. But here another problem arises. How to know that the GST number mentioned on the bill which the shopkeeper is paying is correct?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The customer finds himself more comfortable making cash payments. Now let&#8217;s look at the result of this whole process. When the government tries to take stock of economic activities, such transactions do not come to the fore. This reads the government to lose the revenue it receives in the form of GST. This also hinders the view of the government&#8217;s plan to reduce cash transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As the chairperson of the GST Council, the Finance Minister should encourage the states to bring more and more items in the tax categories below 28% and 18%. Doing so will not only increase tax compliance but also increase tax revenue from higher consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color:
