Under the project, 6.5 lakh people living in slums are to be rehabilitated. The project was stuck for several years due to various complications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Maharashtra Slum Rehabilitation Authority had invited tenders for the redevelopment of Dharavi on October 1, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Under this project, each family living in a slum will get a house of 405 square feet area. A four-storey building will be constructed under this project. Dharavi is expected to create over one crore sq ft of space in the next 17 years. Out of this, 70-80 lakh square feet will be constructed for rehabilitation. The rest will be sold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The plan for the redevelopment of Dharavi was made in the year 1999. The tendering process was done three times in two decades. Tender was again invited for the fourth time. In the new proposal for Dharavi redevelopment, the condition of having an Indian company was kept.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Under the state government scheme, valid slum dwellers up to January 1, 2000 will be given houses free of cost, while rest of the slum dwellers will get 300 sq. ft. houses based on the construction cost. The project was estimated to cost Rs 28,000 crore, which is now expected to increase by 20 to 30 per cent.
