{"id":34333,"date":"2022-12-13T13:29:53","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T07:59:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/?p=34333"},"modified":"2022-12-29T11:21:16","modified_gmt":"2022-12-29T05:51:16","slug":"legal-timber-from-myanmar-burma-is-not-banned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/hi\/legal-timber-from-myanmar-burma-is-not-banned\/","title":{"rendered":"Legal Timber from Myanmar (Burma) is not banned"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row\"><div class=\"wpb_column column_container col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The central government in New Delhi informed the Indian border state of Mizoram that timber was not on the restricted list of commodities from Myanmar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">New Delhi&#8217;s directive was in response to a letter written by Mizoram governor Hari Babu Khambhampati seeking clarification on the issue of timber imports, following a petition by an association of wood-based industries in the state pushing for the removal of timber from the restricted list of commodities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>India&#8217;s Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal said that only two types of timber \u2013 rough sandalwood and rough red sanders \u2013 are on the restricted list of imports from Myanmar.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">India accounted for an average of 42 per cent of Myanmar&#8217;s global timber exports between 2000 and 2015, according to some researchers. In 2013 alone, Myanmar timber worth over US$700 million was exported to India, comprising 31 per cent of all India&#8217;s timber imports in that year. Myanmar timber, especially Gurjan and Burmese teak, is hugely profitable for Indian merchants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A report by Justice for Myanmar, an advocacy group that monitors Myanmar&#8217;s military regime, said that more than 1,700 tons of teak was imported by the United States in 2021, despite Sanctions in place since the coup. Another report found Italian traders importing teak in 2021, even though the European Union has prohibited its sale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, Trade between India and Myanmar, both legal and illicit, supports large numbers of people on both sides of the frontier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In all likelihood, timber exports from Myanmar to India will increase given India&#8217;s current construction boom. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Experts project a compound annual growth rate of more than six per cent from 2023 to 2026 for the construction sector, with India tipped to remain among the top five largest construction markets in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/hi\/placement-wanted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-34611\"
