{"id":38060,"date":"2023-03-15T12:29:39","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T06:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/?p=38060"},"modified":"2023-04-06T11:07:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T05:37:29","slug":"power-subsidy-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/hi\/power-subsidy-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Power subsidy Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row\"><div class=\"wpb_column column_container col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The power subsidy payable by Punjab Government to power corporation may cross a whopping Rs.20,000 crore as per the revised estimates of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This calculation is based on the current tariff, and once the tariff increases (likely on March 31, 2023), due to a rise in coal and fright charges, the subsidy amount will certainly cross the Rs.20,000 crore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The revised subsidy amount for the current financial year (Rs.16,515 crore) includes Rs.6,071 crore for domestic consumers, Rs.2,669 crore for the industry sector, and Rs.7,375 crore for agriculture pump sets and a few others.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Punjab started a power subsidy in 1998 for the agriculture sector, and later political freebies included other categories, and latest inclusion after Aam Adami Party (AAP) government came to power in the state is free 300 units monthly to domestic consumers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As many as 27 states and Union territories out of 36 are providing subsidized electricity to consumers. This comes to around Rs.1.32 trillion nation-wide in the 2020-21 financial year alone, as per the power ministry data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After Madhya Pradesh, Punjab is the second state where the power subsidy bill has crossed Rs.15,000 crore. The subsidy amount of `18,104 crore for the next financial year 2023-24 in MP comprise Rs.7,310 crore for domestic consumers, Rs.3,050 crore for the industry sector, and Rs.7,744 crore for agriculture pump sets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All India Power Engineers Federation said that now, \u201c<strong>PSPCL is fully dependent upon the government, which has defeated its objective to run like a company. Now, PSPCL can&#8217;t plan things for the future,<\/strong> as it has less financial freedom as most of the money will come from the government. There is a need to rationalize the subsides, and it will benefit, the state and consumers, as well as PSPCL\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a
