{"id":39138,"date":"2023-06-14T19:41:55","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T14:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/?p=39138"},"modified":"2023-07-11T10:38:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T05:08:26","slug":"wto-to-reconsider-agriculture-subsidies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/hi\/wto-to-reconsider-agriculture-subsidies\/","title":{"rendered":"WTO to reconsider agriculture subsidies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the World Trade Organization (WTO) did not listen to developing countries as compared to developed countries, be it the specific issue related to agricultural exports, or the issue of general trade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Speaking at a seminar organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Seoul, South Korea, Sitharaman said the WTO needs to look at agricultural subsidies with an open mind as they affect food security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Since the WTO&#8217;s inception, there have been complaints about exports of agricultural products and trade in general that the voices of the Global South and emerging market countries have not been heard on an equal footing with developed countries.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She said, \u201cSubsidies are important for agriculture and poor farmers in developing countries. It was completely ignored and it was closed. Food and fertilizer security has become critical in view of the ongoing conflict between Russia Ukraine and Covid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">WTO needs to renegotiate food and fertilizer subsidies with an open mind. In the context of food security, Sitharaman raised concerns about the disparity in treatment of emerging markets as compared to developed countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to him, the WTO trade agreements have become one-sided, for which a solution has to be found.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a
