{"id":39965,"date":"2023-08-08T17:00:14","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T11:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/?p=39965"},"modified":"2023-08-08T17:04:15","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T11:34:15","slug":"poised-for-more-durable-growth-than-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plyinsight.com\/hi\/poised-for-more-durable-growth-than-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"Poised for more durable growth than ever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">India appears poised to sustain its growth in a more durable way than earlier, with the economy carrying the momentum from 2022-23 (FY2023) into the current financial year (2023-24, or FY2024), observed the Annual Economic Review for FY2023 released by the finance ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, the report warned that escalation of geopolitical stress, enhanced volatility in global financial systems, sharp price correction in global stock markets, a high magnitude of the El-Nino impact, and modest trade activity and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, were factors that could constrain the pace of growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The annual review said a strong final quarter (January-March) performance in FY2023 pushed the GDP growth for the full year to 7.2 per cent, higher than the 7 per cent estimated in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, the report didn&#8217;t make any fresh growth forecast for FY2024. Growth estimates by macro-economic forecasting agencies vary between 6 per cent and 6.5 per cent for the current financial year (FY2024).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The report warned that the impending downside risks to India&#8217;s exports include the European Union&#8217;s introduction of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, continued uncertainty about the Russia-Ukraine conflict; and polarisation risks arising out of the prevailing geo-political situation reflected in the possible adoption of trade-restrictive measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The finance ministry said investments in supply-side infrastructure raise the possibility that India could enjoy sustained economic growth longer than it has been able to in several decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cNonetheless, it is neither the time to rest on laurels nor risk diluting the painstakingly and consciously achieved economic stability. If we are patient, the rising tide will lift all boats -as it has begun to,\u201d it noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cUrban demand conditions remain resilient, with higher growth in auto sales, fuel consumption and UPI transactions. Rural demand is also on its path to recovery with robust growth in sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While the GST collections and Purchasing Managers&#8217; Index (PMI) for the manufacturing and services sector continue to expand, a surge in services exports and increase in remittances has helped narrow the current account deficit towards the end of FY2023,\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Strong balance sheets and digital advancements, the report mentioned, could lead to better credit decisions allowing India&#8217;s financial cycle to sustain for longer periods before encountering the challenge of bad debts.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color:
