Amendments in BIS Standards and it’s consequences

IS: 303 standards will now may be alike Hallmark. 18-20-22 or 24 carat is written with Hallmarke. Similarly, now A-B-C-D or any similar marking will be done below the ISI seal in IS: 303. So far no such recommendation has come that these (like A-B-C-D) markings should be accompanied by complete details of the product. This has been left to the wisdom of the producer and the consumer.

Will the consumers would eager to know about these markings or will the industry go into the hands of distributors and retailers? Will the distributors force the producers to mark inferior goods with high grade for their own benefit? Will the producers be able to resist this pressure and say that no, we will not do this? After all, even now market complaints that IS: 303 or even lighter goods are being sold as IS: 710. How will this be stopped? Who will stop it? ­

Many industrialists complain that the information is not provided about the samples being taken by BIS as ‘market sample’ by the officials. Which creates doubts about the genuineness of the product. Whether it is collected from a bona fide dealer?  Chances of fake CML number cannot be overruled.

The time for implementation of QCO is getting nearer. But there is lethargy in the industry organizations.

Provisions in standard which can disturb the regular operation, should be tried to rectify well in time to avoid the post disturbances.

According to the provisions implemented by BIS in relation to Flush Door, the license holders of Flus Door cannot make Jabra Door.

Similarly, in shuttering ply, there is a provision for pressing film face after the ply is made. And again after film pressing, there is a provision for preservative treatment. However, on both these issues, the industry’s objections have been registered with BIS by WTA.

It is also important to look closely to these amendments right now, as because at the dusk hours, everyone will say only,”QCO should be implemented whatever the standard is”. Only ban on import will be the focus of everyone, at that last moment.
