Dealer cannot put his own brand without consent of BIS

Bureau of Indian Standards Awareness Program by Bhopal Plywood and Hardware Association

Bhopal Plywood and Hardware Association organized a special awareness program for its members yesterday, in which Mr. Bhushan Naik, Consultant Engineer, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) participated.

Key Points:

Quality Control Order (QCO):

Under the new QCO issued by the Government of India, many wood related products like plywood, block board, flush doors and particle board have been brought under the purview of mandatory ISI certification.

Role of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS):

• There is no difference between BIS and ISI, both are part of the same organization.
• The standardization work of Bureau of Indian Standards was explained through slide presentation.
• Information was given on the process of identifying the purity of gold and silver through Hallmarking and HUID code.

Importance of BIS CARE App:

• The members present were made to download the BIS CARE mobile app and were informed about its use.
• With the help of this app, anyone can enter the name of the product and see the relevant IS standard, name of the licensed company and the validity of the license.
• The process of identifying real and fake ISI mark and checking the authenticity of the license number was explained.
• If a consumer has any complaint regarding an ISI marked product, the facility of filing a complaint online through the app was also explained.

BIS standards available for free:

Indian standards that were previously available for a fee can now be obtained for free by registering on the official website of BIS https://standardsbis.bsbedge.com/BIS_Register.

Process of obtaining ISI license:

This process has been simplified during the tenure of the Modi government.

Micro, small scale industries, startups and women entrepreneurs are being given a discount of 50% to 80% in license fees.

Special information for dealers:

If a dealer has his own registered brand and he buys and sells goods from an ISI certified producer, then he can use the ISI mark by entering into an agreement with BIS.

The dealers were also made clear that they cannot put their own brand roller or seal directly on the product.
