Discussion on incentive package is still going on: Finance Minister

Regarding the incentive package to give a boost to the country’s economy, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that it is under discussion between the Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office. He declined to say anything about the timing of its announcement.

Sitharaman told reporters here, “We met the Prime Minister and we will meet again.” This is not the right time to discuss the timing of grant of the incentive package as the issue is currently under discussion between the Finance Ministry and the PMO. When we have something to tell, we will do so. ”Regarding meetings with his ministry with banks, industries, SMEs, financial sector and automobile sector, Sitharaman said that his issues were seriously heard by the government. He said, ‘We are looking at what steps can be taken and there was a meeting with the Prime Minister on this issue. Soon we will give information about it.’

Regarding the relief sought by the gems and jewelery industry in the import of gold, Sitharaman said that a fixed amount of foreign exchange is being spent on this commodity and it will be subsidized further if needed.

The finance minister said, “Like crude oil and some electronics, gold is not a product that is in our country. Whatever gold we buy is imported. To buy what is not available in this country, we have to use foreign currency. We need to see what we want to pay for and can we subsidize such things?’

Sitharaman also said that black money is coming back and assets are being ‘confiscated and it is coming into the market’.

On 16th  August, the Finance Minister was in Ahmedabad for a joint session of officials of Income Tax Department, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Customs Department. This is the first such meeting in Ahmedabad and she will also have meetings with tax authorities, taxpayers and tax experts in metros with medium cities like Mysore, Guwahati, Pune and Kanpur.

देश की अर्थव्यवस्था को गति देने के लिए प्रोत्साहन पैकेज के बारे में केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने कहा कि इस पर मंत्रालय व प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय के बीच चर्चा चल रही है। उन्होंने इसकी घोषणा के वक्त के बारे में कुछ भी कहने से इनकार किया है।

सीतारमण ने यहां संवाददाताओं से कहा, ‘हमने प्रधानमंत्री से मुलाकात की थी और हम फिर मिलेंगे। यह प्रोत्साहन पैकेज दिए जाने के समय के बारे में बातचीत करने का सही वक्त नहीं है क्योंकि वित्त मंत्रालय और पीएमओ के बीच इस मसले पर अभी बातचीत चल रही है। जब हमारे पास बताने के लिए कुछ होगा, तब हम ऐसा करेंगे।’ बैंकों, उद्योगों, एसएमई, वित्तीय क्षेत्र और ऑटोमोबाइल क्षेत्र के साथ अपने मंत्रालय के साथ हुई बैठकों के बारे में सीतारमण ने कहा कि उनके मसलों को सरकार ने गंभीरता से सुना। उन्होंने कहा, ‘हम देख रहे हैं कि क्या कदम उठाए जा सकते हैं और इस मसले पर प्रधानमंत्री के साथ बैठक हुई थी। जल्द ही हम इसके बारे में जानकारी देंगे।’

सोने के आयात में रत्न एवं आभूषण उद्योग की ओर से मांगी जा रही राहत के बारे में सीतारमण ने कहा कि विदेशी मुद्रा की तय मात्रा इस जिंस पर खर्च की जा रही है और जरूरत पड़ने पर आगे इस पर सब्सिडी दी जाएगी।

वित्त मंत्री ने कहा, ‘कच्चे तेल व कुछ इलेक्ट्राॅनिक्स की तरह सोना भी ऐसा उत्पाद नहीं है, जो हमारे देश में है। जो भी सोना हम खरीदते हैं, वह आयातित है। इस देश में जो चीज उपलब्ध नहीं है, उसे खरीदने के लिए हमें विदेशी मुद्रा का इस्तेमाल करना होता है। हमें यह देखने की जरूरत है कि किन चीजों के लिए हम भुगतान करना चाहते हैं और क्या ऐसी चीज पर सब्सिडी दे सकते हैं?’

सीतारमण ने यह भी कहा कि काला धन वापस आ रहा है और संपत्तियां ‘जब्त की जा रही हैं और यह बाजार में आ रही हैं।’

16 अगस्त को वित्त मंत्री आयकर विभाग, केंद्रीय वस्तु एवं सेवाकर (सीजीएसटी) और सीमा शुल्क विभाग के अधिकारियों के संयुक्त सत्र के लिए अहमदाबाद में थीं। अहमदाबाद में इस तरह ही पहली बैठक हुई है और कर अधिकारियों, करदाताओं और कर विशेषज्ञों के साथ वह मैसूर, गुवाहटी, पुणे और कानपुर जैसे मझोले शहरों के साथ महानगरों में भी बैठकें करेंगी।
