Encouraging signs from UP

The identity of Uttar Pradesh is changing. This state was known for its agriculture-based economy and high population density. Now the state government is making concrete efforts to promote industrial development and invest in infrastructure, technology and key industries.

In the financial year 2023-24, the manufacturing industry in the state registered a growth of 13 percent, which was much higher than the growth rate of 7.5 percent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). Manufacturing contributed 27 percent to the state’s economy. There is no shortage of workers in the state, a large part of the population lives in rural areas and their dependence on agriculture is very high. Industrial development can improve the lives of crores of people.

There are opportunities in the state to further strengthen the manufacturing system in the future. Along with this, improvement in infrastructure, ease of doing business, speeding up the land acquisition process and quick approvals will help in increasing the confidence of investors.

On the strength of high agricultural production, Uttar Pradesh can make unlimited progress by investing in agriculture-based industries and food processing units. This will not only increase the income of farmers but will also reduce the post-harvest losses of crops.

Significant increase in Agro forestry: R K Sapra

There has been an increase of 1.9 lakh hectares under agroforestry in Uttar Pradesh during 2013-2023, which is more than the total area under agroforestry in Punjab (1.7 lakh hectares) and Haryana (1.4 lakh hectares) in 2023. Former Haryana IFS officer RK Sapra said that there has been a significant increase in agroforestry in UP. In comparison, the area of agroforestry in Punjab and Haryana has remained almost stagnant during the period 2013-2023.

In this way, the availability of wood as raw material in UP is better than Haryana and Punjab. But the other aspect of the situation is that most of the wood of UP goes to Yamunanagar Mandi.
