Mr. Hom Prasad Ghimire President Nepal Plywood Manufacturers Association expressed concern about the present condition and future increasing demand of wood species such as Safeda, Poplar and hilly original wood Uttis and Chiloune being grown in the Terai region of Nepal. He requested all manufacturers that there is a need to do more and more plantations under the aegis of Nepal Plywood Association and at their own level. But there is an urgent need for discussion and cooperation with experts on what and which clones should be planted where, otherwise a wood crisis may arise in Nepal in the coming few years. In this program, Mr. Dharmendra Daukia wood plantation expert from India, light was thrown on the various plantation techniques through a presentation being done at present and how to balance the consumption of plywood industry and the quantity of wood to be planted.
Nepal’s renowned industrialist Mr. C.L. Bothra said that, he has planted Safeda year-round in a radius of about 5 km from his vicinity with his personal efforts, which is now 2 years old. If the industry gives free saplings to the farmers around them and commits to buy them again after four years, then the farmers will happily cultivate it. This can benefit the industry and the farmers as well as start a green revolution in Nepal.

WTA General Secretary Mr. Manoj Gwadi said that the concept of fixing the minimum price of plantation timber was conceived many years ago by former WTA President Mr. S.C. Jolly. This issue was raised repeatedly in many programs organized with the Government of India and the industry and today the industry is also realizing its importance. Certainly, this is a happy moment for the farmers and people associated with plantation.
How modern machines and technology can reduce the daily wastage of plywood industry and how machines can prove useful for us, was discussed in detail by Mr. Jagmohan Singh of Kalyan Industries from India and other manufacturers/experts and their utility was understood.
At the end of the program, the organizer Swami Shri Prem Anveshi and Nepal Plywood Association requested the Wood Technologist Association to provide guidance and support for plantation and other technical advances from time to time by their experts on these subjects, on which the Shri Gajendra Rajput President assured full cooperation whenever required.
