
Manak Manthan program is to make industrialists aware of BIS standards: Snehlata

Snehlata Director North of Bureau of Indian Standards, said that BIS is organizing programs in different cities to make industrialists aware of standards. The purpose of such programs is that industrialists understand the importance of standards and prepare their products in accordance with the standards.
“Manak Manthan” was organized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in Kumaon Garhwal Chamber of Industry (KGCCI) Bhawan in collaboration with UK, UP Plywood Association.
Prominent industrialists, especially entrepreneurs associated with plywood and wood-based panel product sector, Chamber officials participated in the program. Ajay Bhatt, MP (Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Parliamentary Constituency) was the chief guest.
Addressing the participants chief guest Ajay Bhatt said that standard quality rules apply to products in other countries as well. Accordingly, the Government of India is also trying to produce high quality products in our country as per the demand of the global market and export them to the global market.
Ramesh Middha, President of UK, UP Ply Association, and General Secretary, Sandeep Gupta in organizing and making the program successful. The program was conducted by BIS Joint Director Sachin Chaudhary. At the beginning of the program, Chamber President Ashok Bansal welcomed all the guests and participants and said that such programs act as a bridge between the industry and the government. He urged all entrepreneurs to adopt the quality standards set by BIS and prepare their products to compete global.
In the program, UK, UP Ply Association Sandeep Gupta, General Secretary said that such programs should be held on a regular basis. industrialists are not only getting information about the standards, through this, but they are also getting to know what steps can be taken to solve if any problem also revealed that if there is a problem regarding the standards, then what steps are to be taken to solve it. He assured that every member of the association is prepared to implement the standards. Its pleasant results will also come out in the near future.
In the first session of the program, BIS experts gave a detailed presentation on the creation and amendment process of Indian standards, latest Quality Control Order (QCO), new guidelines of product certification and the facilities of digital portals.
Aditya Agarwal gave a presentation on the problems faced by plywood manufactures in a very systematic way on behalf of the association. Through his presentation, he presented the various problems of the industrialists to BIS.
In the second session of “Manak Manthan”, Shri Pradeep Shekhawat joint Director, Civil Engineering Div, explained in detail (through virtual medium) on the amendments made in IS 1659 (Block Board), IS 303 (Plywood for general purpose use) and other relevant standards.
He told that earlier there was only one standard in IS 303 which was necessary to pass for everyone. Now it has been divided into five parts. Every industry can make ply of the lowest to highest standard as per the requirement of their market. They will definitely have to declare the category in which they have made the ply. If their sample is equal to or above that declared standard, then only it will be considered passed.
Shri Saurabh Tiwari Director & HRBO, Dehradun explained in detail the method of inspection and sampling of industries and what steps will be taken by BIS in case the sample fails. Explaining about critical and non-critical, he told that only after failing for the second time in a row, there is a possibility of suspension or cancellation of license. Meanwhile, the industry has sufficient time to reorganize its activities properly.
Almost every plywood manufacturers of Uttarakhand participated in the program.
The entrepreneurs shared their suggestions and practical experiences, which gave the BIS officials an opportunity to understand the real needs of the industry.
WTA President Gajendra Rajput and Secretary Manoj Gwari also submitted a memorandum regarding the standards.
In the end, the BIS officials thanked all the participants, organizers and the Chamber team.
