Need To Encourage Agro Forestry with New & Out Of the Box Approach

It is said that you are just a choice away from your best life. If you choose a better option, then life will also become new. Making a decision and trying to make it successful gives us strength. It gives us a feeling of taking responsibility.

While going through our normal life, we take many decisions every day, but neither do we pay attention to it nor to its results. Many such decisions are so generalised and small that we do not consider them as decisions.

Such as, whether we want to eat simple, digestible, nutritious food or heavy food. It is our right to choose. Our health will be reflected on the Kind of food we decide to eat.

Such as, when will you wake up in the morning after turning off the alarm. And after waking up, will you exercise or go for a walk or will you give excuses to avoid it. This is also a small decision. But it also affects your energy throughout the day.

Similarly, some tasks look very easy, and we assume that we will easily complete it tomorrow or day after. And keep postponing them. But by postponing it, this small task gradually becomes so big that it tends to a hilly task just even to start.

Comfortable with high consumption of raw material and huge capital investment in MDF, they have personally taken interest in investing and encouraging the agro forestry sector.

Due to the large number of medium and small scale units in plywood and particle board, the required investment in agro forestry has not been done by this sector.

Whereas most of the industrialists are dependent on the organization, it becomes very difficult to implement such decisions unanimously due to the large number of members. Some enthusiastic industrialists are making commendable efforts individually. But the capacity of such efforts is limited. We can also mention this with the proverb ‘a drop in the ocean’.

The model suggested by an agro forestry expert seems to be very down to earth:

• 5-10 like-minded industrialists who have more than two presses should form a company
• Each should invest Rs. 10 lakh or more in it
• Appoint an agro forestry expert (consultant)
• The objective of the company should be to promote agro forestry in every possible way which will provide raw material for its stakeholders in future.
• With such a model, the individual responsibility of the industrialists is shifted from them to the expert.

The following services can be availed from amalgamation of the company and agricultural experts:-

• Organizing training camps for farmers on technology, Species selection and management practices
• Identifying suitable tree species by identifying the soil and water availability of the local area
• Providing improved varieties of saplings and seeds of suitable tree species from reliable and reputed nurseries or institutions
• Facilitating farmers’ access to financial incentives such as subsidies, loans, etc.
• Identifying vacant or infertile government lands suitable for cultivation and trying to get them allotted for industry
• Reporting the progress and results of agro forestry by preparing a report of various works
• Finally, taking advantage of carbon dating from government as well
