To learn more about this launch and what it means for the Indian paneling market, we spoke with Mr. Ullas Guliani, General Manager – Business Process & Administration at profine India. Read on to discover more.
- Let’s start with the big news – the launch of KömaBoard. What inspired this move, and why now?
India’s construction and interior industry is in the midst of a transformative shift—marked by growing demand for smart, high-performance, and yet sustainable materials. There’s a growing recognition of the limitations of traditional panel materials, especially in terms of durability, maintenance, and environmental impact. We felt the time was right to introduce KömaBoard as the market today is more receptive than ever. Increased awareness around environmental responsibility, combined with the need for advanced solutions, aligned perfectly with our long-standing commitment to serve India with the best. It’s a decision shaped by both readiness and relevance.
- How does KömaBoard align with your company’s broader vision and long-term strategy for India?
Our strategy at Koemmerling has always focused on offering future-forward and sustainable building materials. KömaBoard fits seamlessly into this vision. While we have already made a mark with our uPVC external doors and windows in the Indian fenestration industry, the launch of these polymer composite sheets enables us to expand into the interiors space—specifically internal doors and panel applications. It’s not just a new product line; it ‘s a strategic step toward becoming a holistic solutions provider in eco-conscious infrastructure.
- What makes KömaBoard different from traditional panel materials available in the market today?
KömaBoard sets itself apart through a combination of sustainability, strength, and superior performance. It is termite, borer, and water-resistant—meaning it doesn’t swell, warp, or deteriorate the way many traditional panel materials do.
Add to that are its carpenter-friendly properties and a consistently high-quality surface finish, giving you a finished product that delivers both on form and function. Need not to say that it is greener product as it is not made by cutting the trees which means it is a superior and sustainable alternative to traditional materials.
- What role does Koemmerling’s German legacy play in the product development and positioning of KomaBoard?
Koemmerling, a brand of profine GmbH, carries a rich legacy of over 127 years. And this legacy is the foundation of everything we do. Koemmerling has been manufacturing PVC sheets across the globe since 1967, and that experience reflects in the precision and performance of KömaBoard sheets launched for the Indian market. We believe in offering the right product for the right application, and KömaBoard is a testament to our commitment and ability to deliver innovative solutions that are not only engineered to perform but also takes care of a greener planet. This heritage gives us the confidence to lead with quality and credibility.

- Sustainability is a hot topic across industries. How do these new offerings contribute to environmentally responsible building and furniture practices?
For us, sustainability is not just a buzz word, but a lived reality. At Koemmerling, we demonstrate this commitment every day; through our product portfolio, our technologies, and our working environment. We think and act holistically. To put it another way: we consider the ecological, social, and economic aspects of everything we do.
And KömaBoard is designed and crafted with this same commitment and vision for the Indian paneling market. KömaBoard is a highly sustainable and superior alternative to traditional material. There are no toxic or harmful substance in KömaBoard that can be given off over the long term. KömaBoard is free from formaldehyde, asbestos, lindane, PCB, PCP, and CFCs. What’s more, they are cadmium and lead-free. This is why KömaBoard pose absolutely no hazard to people or the environment, neither during their manufacture, while in use, nor during the recycling process.
Most importantly, it helps reduce deforestation and promote resource efficiency. It’s a responsible choice for modern-day furniture and interior applications.
- How do you see the market shifting to PVC/WPC-based materials?
Absolutely. There’s a growing shift across sectors—from homeowners and designers to fabricators and OEMs—toward materials that offer durability, hygiene, and sustainability. In healthcare and pharmaceuticals, the demand is for panels with anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and moisture-resistant properties. The hospitality industry seeks stylish yet robust materials that can handle high traffic with minimal maintenance. Even in residential spaces, people are now choosing solutions that are termite-proof, water-resistant, and eco-friendly. KömaBoard meets all these evolving needs with a versatile, high-performance product range designed to support this market transformation.
- What kind of response have you received from the channel partners, fabricators, and architects so far?
The response has been very encouraging. Our channel partners across the nation have immediately recognized the potential of KömaBoard to fill a critical gap in the panel materials market. What’s been especially rewarding is hearing how they see KömaBoard as a versatile solution—whether it is for modular interiors, wall cladding, doors, or specialized cleanroom applications. Their feedback confirms that we are addressing a real need with this launch.
- Are there any specific sectors or applications you’re targeting first?
Yes, we are initially focusing on applications where hygiene, durability, and low maintenance are non-negotiable. These include interiors, doors, modular furniture, cleanrooms, and healthcare infrastructure. That said, we believe KömaBoard has the potential to make an impact across industries, and we are already seeing interest from sectors like education and retail as well.
- What would you like KomaBoard to be referred to as in the Indian building materials market five years from now?
We would like KömaBoard to be known as a category-defining product—one that raised the bar for quality, durability, and sustainability in interior panels. More than just a material, we want it to be seen as part of a solution-oriented portfolio that offers peace of mind and performance. Most importantly, we want to be known as a trusted partner who led this transition with integrity and innovation.
- Finally, what would your message be to the audience who are still relying on traditional materials?
It’s time to embrace sustainable innovation. The materials we choose today will shape the performance and sustainability of tomorrow’s spaces. I urge to look beyond the conventional—understand the specifications, compare results, and make informed decisions. Don’t settle for compromise when a better alternative is within reach.
