Some of the key concerns raised by the members of the Association were:

  1. Consideration of plywood made from fali core veneers and short core veneers. (IS: 303).
  2. Consideration of similar boards made from waste wood battens converted from peeling waste rollers. (IS:1659).
  3. 5 kg/M³ preservative retention in Shuttering Grade plywood (IS: 4990).
  4. BIS visiting inspectors unnecessarily harassing factories for equipment, not required for the respective standard. (Example: Stout Table enforcement for PB – IS: 3087).
  5. BIS, Kochi BO being non-cooperative about Cluster Lab facility and common lab facility for small factories with 3 to 7 daylight hot presses.

All these were addressed by Vaidyanathan, and appropriate suggestions and advice given to factory owners to take these points up, with the BIS, along with a statistical data presentation and real-time data inputs, for further consideration and action through stakeholder meetings and communications with the BIS as well as the DPIIT, GoI.
