Forestry Students Visit Northern Plywood industry

As a part of the “All India Study Tour”, 59 students of BSc Forestry along with tour co-ordinators Dr Mohammed Nasir, assistant professor, Forest Products Utilization and Dr. Kaushal Singh, assistant professor, Silviculture and Agroforestry from Banda University of Agriculture and Technology Banda visited the Northern Plywood Industry famously known as Haryana industry on 1st March 2023. The visit was arranged and co-ordinated by Mr. Subhash Chandra Jolly President and Awdhesh Yadav, Secretary Wood Technologist Association and facilitated by Mr. Gopal Bhandari, Quality Control Manager, Northern Plywood Industry.

Northern plywood industry started its journey in 2015 working with an objective of full satisfaction to the customers – in terms of quality, timely deliveries, the excellence of shades and superiority of workmanship. The manufacturing unit is located at Yamuna Nagar, Haryana (close to New Delhi, the capital of India). The Industry has complete facilities to manufacture the various kinds of composite products like commercial ply, shuttering ply, coreboards, and pre-laminated boards. The industry is claim to be champion in compact laminates of 0.8mm laminates, 1 mm laminates and unparalleled in the market. Industry is selling their products across the country and out of the country. They are also guiding and assisting their customers in evolving and implementing appropriate designs and shades for their interior decorations.

Industry floor Visit

Students were guided the manufacturing of Plywood, Flush board and Blockboard making process. Stating from the selection and cutting of logs it was debarked and peeled. Four automated rotatory lather machine were employed for the logs are peeled into veneers. The continuous sheet of veneers was chopped off into smaller sections and wear and tears were being stitched to minimise the wastage of wood. Veneers were drying on continuous roller dryer followed by adhesive application. Odd numbers of adhesive placed cross to each other were assembled before pressing it. While making the flush door scrap and waste woods were being used as core wood. After passing through Hot Press boards Trimmed from all side sanded and shifted to conditioning chambers.

Research and Developments Section

Northern Plywood Industry is an authorised supplier of plywood to railway and prepares bench, sleeper, and compartments. It is a RDSO approved industry and well equipped with its own R&D facilities. Students visited the laboratory and practically did the smoke test, toxicity test which is one of the most impotent parameters in railways coach manufacturing. Further, other instruments like HRR ( Heat release rate) Test, Fire Test for type 1 and 2 quality of wood, Xenotest were elaborated.
