Building with Bamboo: Unlocking New Opportunities in Construction and Furniture

The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) successfully organised the 3rd Roundtable on “Building with Bamboo: Unlocking Opportunities in Construction and Furniture”, under the chairpersonship of Ms. Kamna Sharma, Additional Commissioner, National Bamboo Mission.

The roundtable brought together valuable perspectives from industry stakeholders, technical experts and sectoral associations, fostering a meaningful dialogue on the opportunities and challenges across existing bamboo value chains.

The discussions focused on identifying practical pathways to strengthen the construction and furniture sectors, address key bottlenecks, enhance value addition and competitiveness, and unlock the immense potential of bamboo as a sustainable material.

A key focus was on strengthening India’s position in the global bamboo market, while simultaneously promoting greater domestic adoption and consumption. The deliberations highlighted the need to move towards a ‘Produce for India and the World” approach—building globally competitive products and value chains while creating a stronger domestic ecosystem.

The roundtable marks another important step towards advancing bamboo-based enterprises, innovation and sustainable development, and realising the vision of positioning India as a significant player in the global bamboo economy.
