It is being claimed that there is about 25 percent forest area in the country. Padma Bhushan awarded environmentalist Dr. Anil Joshi believes that this figure is not correct. Because he says that when such data is recorded in government records, all types of trees are counted in it.

A question arises whether our ‘government forests’ are really natural? In the true sense, a natural forest is one where trees grow naturally according to the climate and geographical conditions of that place.

Nature has given the opportunity to a particular variety and species of plants to flourish at a particular place. For example, if jackfruit trees are in abundance in Kerala, there are sal trees in the Ganga basin. Oak trees are found only in the Himalayas while other species of vines are found in the plains.

Because these plants suits the climate, geographical conditions and environment at conditions of these areas. But for a long time we have destroyed the relationship of trees with locality. Today we plant any kind of trees and give them the status of forests.

But no attention is paid to the climate and land suitability of the area for such plants. Trees designed by nature to provide us wood, shade and oxygen, as well as controlling the climate, land and temperature of the area.

We are well aware of the fact that a person emits 7.01 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, trees reduce the level of carbon dioxide. Trees also play an important role in controlling groundwater and temperature.

But now when we plant a tree in a different climatic zone other than its natural environment, its capabilities will be different. Therefore, there is a special relationship between the tree and the place where it grows, which connects the tree to the soil, water and other climate there.

When we artificially grow such plants, which are not the local variety of that area, then they are not in harmony with the soil and climate there.

Therefore, there is a great need today that we pay attention and discuss towards climate forestry. Which simply means that the tree which belongs to a particular area should be allowed to grow there only. If this does not happen, then that artificial plantation can create a serious problem for the local trees there. Its effect will also be felt on the people living there sooner or later.
