A field visitfor State Forest Officers trainees of CASFOS, Dehradun was ORGANISED BY CENTRAL ACADEMY FOR STATE FOREST SERVICE, DEHRADUN AND NORTHERN PLYWOOD INDUSTRIES, YAMUNA NAGAR under agroforestry and for interaction of officers in plywood industry on31 May 2024.

The officer trainees were from different states of India. There is increasing demand of wood for plywood and pulpwood industries in Yamuna Nager, Haryana. The demand is fulfilled by the farmers who are raising Poplar and Eucalyptus on their agricultural fields under agroforestry.

The tour was organized for sensitization of officers in poplar-based agroforestry practices being pragmatic by the progressive farmers of Yamuna Nagar and use of wood in making of plywood, doors and plyboards. 

Officer trainees first visited in the farm maintained by progressive farmers Shri Pradeep Singh Bakshi and Shri Sukhdeep Singh. Shri Bakshi interacted with officers and share his experience in raising Poplar trees under agroforestry and highlighted the economic benefits to the farmers of the area.  Farmers sell Poplar @ Rs. 2500-3000 per tree after a period of 4-5 years to the industries.  Farmers are also raising Poplar nurseries as demand of ETPs is being increased in the area.

After farm visit, officers visited in Norther Plywood Industries.  They were interacted by president Shri Subhash Jolly, Shri  Dinesh Bhandari. Manoj Gwari, Gajendra Rajput, Avdhesh Yadav and Anil Singh, members of wood Technologists Association. In the plywood industry, the industry officers have described the methods of preparation of plywood, door panels and plyboard with the help of Poplar and Eucalyptus woods.

The resource persons accompanied the tour of officer trainees from CASFOS, Dehradun were Dr. T. Beula Ezilmathi, IFS and Dr. V.K. Dhawan, Scientist (Retd), FRI.
