Attention drawn to the problems in supply of wood products from outside the State

Uttar Pradesh is playing an active role in plywood and veneer production. Certain critical challenges are arising in the functioning of the industry at present, particularly with regard getting to supply of wood products from outside the State. These issues were brought to the notice of Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh and requested for redressal, by Shri Ashok Agarwal, President, Plywood Manufacturers Welfare Association U.P., following points were highlighted which may be looked into and appropriate decisions may be taken by the state Govt, so that the industry may function smoothly and contribute to the economic development of the State:

  1. Raw Material Requirement
  • The industry requires raw materials such as round wood, veneer, face veneer, and sawn timber for plywood manufacturing.
  1. Supply through Pre-Arrival Slip
  • The supply of raw materials from outside the State is being done through Pre-Arrival Slip.
  1. Problem of stock update on e-Mandi portal

  • It is not possible to update the stock of raw material coming from outside the state on e-Mandi portal.
  1. Problem of measurement on e-Mandi portal
  • The product obtained after processing of wood is shown in quintals on e-Mandi portal, whereas the finished product after processing in the industry is manufactured and issued in square meters or square feet.
  1. Ambiguity on Mandi fee
  • Mandi fee should not be charged on raw material ordered from outside the state and country, which is being ordered through pre-arrival slip. At present, there is confusion regarding this fee.

The following suggestions and requests were proposed for solution:

  • Improvement on e-Mandi portal: Change the system of measurement of raw material and finished product and make it according to the process of the industry.
  • Clarity in Mandi fee: Clear guidelines should be issued for not charging Mandi fee on raw material ordered from outside the state.
  • Simplification of processes: Pre-arrival slip and stock update process should be made simple and easy.
