A. NEED OF TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IN PLYWOOD INDUSTRY

A1. The industry is suffering from multiple challenges as

• Shortage of Wood.
• Unfavorable Economic Conditions.
• Slow growth in infrastructure.
• Lack of Corporate culture
• Lack of Skilled Manpower
• Competitive Market due to lack of unity in Manufacturing Units.
• Liberal Government policies on import of finished Products.
• General unawareness

A2. Apart from some uncontrollable areas, there is a very crucial need of adopting advance technology which may proved to be a booster syndrome for an effective survival of Industry. Introducing the latest technology will serve in following ways –

• Sorting and Feeding Wood Logs in Debarker.
• Auto Loading of Debarked logs into Peeling Machine.
• Replacing the tradition Peeling Machines by more efficient, advance Machines.
• Introduction of Auto Core Composing Lines.
• Introduction of Pneumatic Glue Spreaders.
• Introduction of Auto Loading and Un-loading with Hot Press.
• Introduction of Stack movement from one operation to next.
• If feasible, deciding on manufacturing only Calibrated Product.
• To use highly efficient and quality result Producing Machines.
• Adoption of starting level of ERP System to monitor real time status.
• There should be well managed Historical Maintenance Record of every installed Machine to monitor performance and design a perfect Maintenance Schedule.

B. REPLACEMENT CYCLE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY & COST MANAGEMENT

B1. Though it is the best if few important Machines are replaced in every three to four years but undergoing the Industry in a tough competitive situations, this should not be delayed for more than five to six years.

B2. Regular Monitoring and scheduled Maintenance may keep all Machines in good working condition but introduction of developing technology will improve Energy and Productivity Ratio to improve Economy of the Industry.

B3. The Cost in replacing with new Technology may not be very high for Old Machines, because there will be always available buying Industries with limited profile.

C. NEED OF PLYWOOD INDUSTRY TO BRING IN ORGANISED SECTOR

C.1 The prestige as other segment of Industries has in our Country, the Plywood Sector not yet come up to the level because of following clear reasons –

• Lack of Technology utilization.
• Improper Manufacturing Setup.
• In-efficient Safety norms.
• Unavailable Corporate Culture.
• Unavailable Neat and Clean Working Environment.
• The Quality Life of Working Persons is not up to the mark.
• Insufficient Government attention and Incentives to the Industry.

C.2 The Plywood Industry will experience a never before high level transformation by focusing on above necessary steps. This will apparently bring following changes in times to come-

• An higher attention will be drawn by farmers to grow more plants.
• Technical and Management Skills will start focusing as their career in this area, which presently is not there.
• Nationwide sense of Unity will be established for Uniform Price across the States.
• Government attention may boost the Industry with different incentive schemes or GST structure
