BIS takes strict action on fake ISI mark in Ludhiana plywood market

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has taken a major action to protect the safety and quality standards of consumers by taking action on the sale of products bearing fake ISI mark in the plywood market located at Samrala Chowk in Ludhiana. In this raid conducted under the direction of Chandigarh branch of BIS, about 1350 fake ISI marked plywood and ply boards have been seized by taking action on three establishments.
This campaign was led by Vishal Tomar, Director and Head of BIS Chandigarh. He told that these three shops are located in Samrala Chowk area of Ludhiana and they sell plywood at wholesale price. During the raid, bills were also called from the shopkeepers on the basis of whom this mall was purchased. In further investigation, those factories have also been identified where these fake ISI marked plywood’s were being manufactured. The process of sealing these factories has also been started by BIS.
During the raid, 1350 fake plywood sheets were seized, which were sealed with immediate effect. BIS had formed three separate teams for this raid. These teams included senior officers Abhishek Kumar, Saurabh Verma, Ajay Maurya, Kushagra Jindal, Talika and Harsh Sonkar.
According to BIS, the shops on which this action was taken are: Ganpati Timber and Plywood Emporium C.L. Kalda Timber and Iron Store M.P. Timber and Iron Merchant
BIS chief Vishal Tomar said that the use of fake ISI mark is not only cheating the consumer, but it is also a serious violation of standard rules. He warned that such action will continue in future and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits.
Consumers have also been appealed to check the authenticity of the ISI mark on any product while purchasing it and immediately contact BIS if they find fake or suspicious products.
