After encouraging results from a pilot project launched in the steel sector, the government is now preparing to roll out a broader “Made in India” branding initiative to strengthen the global identity of Indian products, said Amardeep Singh Bhatia secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)

Speaking at a conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Bhatia said: “The Made in India branding scheme had been pending for a long time and is finally being launched now. We conducted a pilot project with the steel sector, and the results have been very encouraging. We will further discuss with industry stakeholders which sectors it can be extended to, but the framework is already ready.

At another session during the same event, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said: We need to introduce an industrial policy that complements our trade policy. The two cannot move in different directions.

He further stated that an industrial policy would help promote growth in sectors that can not only substitute some imports in the industry but also enable India to expand further in the future.
