Scientists in Thailand have identified a coronavirus strain in bats that may potentially infect humans. This information was revealed in a recent study published in the journal “Cell.”

According to the report, conducted by international researchers including experts from University of Tokyo, the newly identified virus belongs to the Sarbecovirus family, which also includes the subgroup containing SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19.

Scientists emphasized that there is currently no evidence of human infection or community transmission linked to this virus.

The report further stated: “Although there is currently no immediate threat of transmission from animals to humans, the virus’s recombination nature, ability to spread widely, and frequent mutations indicate the possibility of evolving into a coronavirus related to SARS-CoV-2.”

However, researchers clarified that there is no reason for panic regarding this virus at present. According to them, active monitoring and surveillance can help manage potential risks effectively.

At present, there appears to be no threat from this virus in India. Doctors have stated that no such case has been reported in the country so far, nor has the government issued any advisory related to it.

While there is no need for panic, experts say it is always better to remain cautious regarding new virus strains. also stressed that the early detection systems developed after the COVID-19 pandemic remain extremely important.
