During a BIS enforcement raid in a shop in Chembur area of Mumbai (on 2nd May, 2024), it was found that the firm was storing and selling Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Bare Foil for Food Packaging without BIS standard mark. Huge number of aluminium foils & its packaging found during the raid in a shop, located at Lokhande marg in Chembur.

Those were seized by the Bureau of Indian Standards Mumbai Branch-I team, as Section 17(1) (a) of BIS Act 2016 had been violated by the firm. BIS officials had received information regarding violation of Aluminium Foil (Quality Control) Order, 2020 which is in effect from 17.08.2020., and quickly acted upon it. 

The violation of Section 17(1)(a) of BIS Act 2016 is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs. 2,00,000 or both as per BIS Act 2016. Action is being initiated to file a case in the court of law for the offence. 

All consumers are encouraged to use BIS CARE App (available both in Mobile Android and iOS) to find out the list of mandatory products which shall be BIS certified and are also requested to ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before making purchase, by visiting BIS website www.bis.gov.in.

BIS requests citizens again and again that in case they come across any instance where mandatory products are being sold without BIS certification, or where misuse of ISI Mark on any product is happening, the same may be informed to BIS Office. Such complaints can also be made by E-mail @bis.gov.in. The source of such information are kept confidential.
