‘Made in India’ Tag

The centre has slapped as many as 148 notices on e-commerce players in the past three months for not complying with the mandatory display of the ‘country of origin’ tag on products sold.

“Of the 148 notices, 56 have compounded it (the offence) and paid up around Rs. 34 lakh,” a senior official told. “Every product has to display the country of origin, along with other basic information,” the official added.

In the case of e-commerce companies, these details have to be clearly displayed on their portals. “Companies are given a chance to explain their case and asked exactly where one can find the product details (online),” the official said.

Last year, the government made it compulsory for all vendors selling on marketplaces to mention the name and details of any importer or seller to help consumers make an informed choice before buying a product.

The move had come amid tensions at the border between India and china and a rising clamour for boycotting Chinese goods in the country.

‘उत्पादन का देश’ टैग

केंद्र ने पिछले तीन महीनों के दौरान ई-कॉमर्स कंपनियों को बेचे गए उत्पादों पर अनिवार्य ‘उत्पादन के देश’ टैग का अनुपालन नहीं करने के लिए 148 नोटिस जारी किए हैं। एक वरिष्ठ सरकारी अधिकारी ने बताया, ‘इन 148 नोटिस में से 56 ने अपराध स्वीकार कर लिया है और करीब 34 लाख रुपये चुका दिए हैं। प्रत्येक उत्पाद पर अन्य बुनियादी सूचनाओं सहित उत्पाद का देश प्रदर्शित करना जरूरी है। ऐसा न करने पर नोटिस जारी किए जाते हैं।’

इस अधिकारी ने कहा, ‘ई-कॉमर्स कंपनियों के मामले में पोर्टल या वेबसाइट पर ब्योरे साफ तौर पर प्रदर्शित किए जाने चाहिए। कंपनियों को अपना पक्ष रखने के लिए एक मौका दिया जाता है और यह बताने को कहा जाता है कि उत्पाद के ब्योरे पता करने के लिए कहां जाना (ऑनलाइन) होगा।’

यह नियम भारत और चीन के बीच सीमा पर तनाव और देश में चीन के माल के बहिष्कार की उठती आवाज के बीच लागू किया गया था।

केंद्र सरकार ‘उत्पादन के देश’ से संबंधित नियमों को और कड़ा कर ई-कॉंमर्स प्लेटफॉर्मों पर स्थानीय स्तर पर उत्पादित वस्तुओं की बिक्री को प्राथमिकता दे सकती है। ये बदलाव उपभोक्ता संरक्षण नियमों में संशोधन के जरिये किए जाएंगे।
