During Sustainable Energy Days (February 24–27), Merino Industries Ltd. highlighted its strong commitment to renewable energy, circular production systems, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Over the past two decades, the company has significantly reduced its reliance on conventional energy sources, with more than 84% of its total energy needs now met through non-fossil fuel sources.
A large share of its electricity is generated through captive solar and wind systems, along with biomass-based power and waste-to-energy systems. Biomass alone contributes a major portion of the company’s internally generated energy, helping reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. Merino also uses advanced pollution control systems and continuous monitoring to maintain air quality within environmental norms.
The company follows a reduce, recycle, and recharge approach in water management, recycling over 101,100 kilolitres of water annually and creating large groundwater recharge capacity through rainwater harvesting. Circularity is integrated into operations by converting process waste into thermal energy, using ash for brick and tile production, and turning organic waste into compost and nutrients.
Beyond manufacturing, Merino supports regenerative agriculture and agroforestry, distributing millions of climate-resilient saplings to farmers and promoting sustainable farming practices. These sustainability efforts have earned the company multiple recognitions, including the Prithvi Award (2023–2025) and the Asian Brand Story Social Impact Award 2024.
Overall, Merino’s renewable-led manufacturing model demonstrates how clean energy adoption, circular resource systems, and community engagement can drive both environmental sustainability and long-term industrial growth.
