What is the Process of Market Sampling?
We usually drow samples from where the company tells us where their goods are sold In the market. This information is given to BIS through the portal. However, BIS can take samples from anywhere in India, along with this, if the same dealer has a product of another company with BIS mark, then its samples can also be taken.
Now so many relaxation has been given by amendments have been made in the standards. After this, the product must have to come in accordance with the standards. We should accept that now samples should not fail. If samples fail, then we must admit that there is a flaw in the production process. Still, if it seems that the level of standards is too high, then it can be requested for amendment.
One thing is clear that now if the sample fails, the license will be cancelled. There will be no compromise on this. Because 50 percent of the samples failing proves that there is a flaw in the process of preparing the product. It is not possible that such a large number of samples fail. Therefore, the team involved in the production process will have to be alerted. This fact also has to be understood that if the team is vigilant in maintaining the standards, then 90 percent of the problems will be eliminated.
Because today we have advanced machines and technology. Therefore, the flaws in the standards can be minimized.
What will happen if the brand is of someone else and the IS mark is of someone else?
This is a big problem. the industry, traders, manufacturers and BIS should work together for it, only then we can stop fake BIS products. If a complaint comes, then we also investigate (on the request of the industrialists).
With the help of QR code or any unique number, manufacturers can prevent their products from being counterfeited. The proportion of duplicacy in marking in plywood is relatively higher than other products.
Consumers also need to be made aware about this. Because the more aware the consumer is, the more we can avoid counterfeit products.
Generally, BIS’s reach is up to the producer, not up to the shopkeeper. Yes, we take prompt action against unethical shopkeepers and producers on your complaint.
Every manufacturer can/should display information about BIS standards making posters at their dealers’ shops. Information like marking standards; facts about MR/BWR/BWP, BIS app required for checking CML number etc. can be written on it. This will help consumers know the standard of the product they are buying. Because until the consumer is not aware, many problems cannot be solved.
- BWP has now been included in IS 303. Its main objective is to make IS 710 specific for marine grade ply, apart from general purpose plywood IS 303 which includes all the classes of commonly used plywood.
- Now ply can be made from any species of agro-forestry (outside forest) wood. But it has to pass all other testing parameters (mechanical strength). Mention of wood species is only indicative.
- Considering the shortage of face, use of C grade face has been permitted. However, there is no relaxation in ‘mechanical properties’ due to this. ‘Faceless ply’ can also be made.
- Now you can make lowest grade of packing grade ply to highest grade ply as per your requirement. You just have to declare and mark the exact grade (bending class) of ply you have made. It is mandatory to pass the minimum ‘Mechanical Properties’ prescribed for that grade.
- Any size can be produced. There is no compulsion.
- Specific negative reduction in ‘Dimensions’ is now acceptable in IS 303.
- Mycological Test’ is made compulsory in all grades of IS 303.
- Ply below 4 MM will now be tested in IS 1328, not required in IS 303.
- In sample testing, MOR value up to -10% in single test is acceptable but average value should not be less than the standard.
- Borax treatment is required for preservative treatment of wood. Given the abundance of termites and other pests in Indian scenario, it has not been proved safe till now by GLP only or any other method.
- While applying for this or any other change, 10-15 test reports should be attached to prove it. Details of the chemicals used should also be given in it. Only then will BIS consider all of them for amendment. The in-house testing report will be valid as well as authorized lab.
