Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has sent memorandum to Captain Amrinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab stating that S. Parkash Singh Badal during SAD-BJP regime declared Plywood Manufacturing Industry using poplar & safeda wood as Agro based Industry.

According to Mr.Ashok Kumar Juneja, Chairman & Inderjit Singh Sohal President Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association (PPMA) despite its said Agro based status no extra benefit has been given to said industry. They demanded that the said industry be charged concessional electricity & bank interest rates as an incentive being its agro based status. Whenever Govt. sells fallen Poplar/Safeda trees woods after being harvested & cut from rivers & roads sides it’s separate auction be made by calling Plywood Manufacturers of Punjab. Central empowered committee (wood based industries) has decided that new licenses for plywood units can only be granted by state govt. subject to availability of ready poplar/safeda wood. But since there is acute shortage of said wood, therefore, no new Licenses be granted for at least 5 years.

Sukhdev Chhabra, Secretary General & Harmeet Honda Sr. Vice President PPMA said that no manufacturer will supply plywood to those dealers who have defaulted in making payment of PPMA’s members without any reasonable cause.

Mr.Baldev Singh Sr.Vice President & Arvinder Singh (Teetoo) executive member PPMA said that the farmers should grow more & more poplar safeda crop in their fields since there will be good scope of income as compared with any other crop.
