Imagining a Greater Indian Enterprise Ecosystem

India has nearly 65 million enterprises, yet a large share of market value is concentrated in only a few big companies. To accelerate national development, India needs a much broader and more competitive base of enterprises—at least 10,000 actively listed companies and 100,000 globally capable MSMEs.
India’s leadership culture is often compared with China’s technology-driven administration and America’s lawyer-dominated politics.
India must promote enterprise-centric leadership, adopt global management practices, and simultaneously apply the wisdom inherent in its civilizational heritage—such as the teachings of the Upanishads and Swami Vivekananda—in modern contexts.
Philosophically, both entrepreneurs and governments should advance the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—considering the whole world as one family—so that enterprises operate with global responsibility, social service, and long-term vision.
It is essential to clearly define the strategic role of enterprises, the expected behavior of businesses, and the enabling role of governments. Companies must also be encouraged to comply with the law, invest in innovation, adopt good governance, generate employment, develop skills, and engage in social service.
Many crises in society arise from economic, social, communication-related, institutional, and moral inequalities. Strong enterprises can reduce these disparities.
But this requires a new wave of liberalization that simplifies regulations, removes obstacles, and ensures speedy justice in commercial disputes.
The Indian wood based industry deserves a dedicated policy rather than multiple adhoc policies, which is diminishing the value and importance of the industry.
The sector needs a special attention, as it is directly related with:
-
- Well being and income of farmers through promotion of agro forestry which will automatically reduced the aptitude towards Rice & paddy.
- Environmental wellness of the entire country, where pollution is increasing day by day.
- Commitment to world towards carbon neutrality.
The sooner the Administration pays attention to this and takes immediate action, the more beneficial it will be for the industry, the government and the country.
