Irregularities detected in GST Bills in Punjab has created furore between miscreants. To encourage consumers to obtain bills on their purchase, the govt has introduced a scheme “Bill Lao Inaam paao”. Consumers upload their Purchase Bills on an app specially designed for it to get their prize through lottery.

In Punjab, consumers uploaded about 60 thousand bills on the portal. About seven thousand bills were found to be fake among them. The government has taken action against those firms and charged Rs 2.11 crore as fine. The investigation identified 118 unregistered firms.

The plywood industry is also facing such hurdles. Both, fake billing and non-billing remains a big problem for the plywood industry. While this is a loss to the exchequer, industrialists are also barricaded. Because such fake or low billing is a hindrance in becoming safe and strong formal plywood market. Industrialists who are on fair billing have to face sales and financial losses due to this.

Supplying plywood on fake bills evade GST, reducing costs. That’s why these goods are sold in the market at cheaper rates. This is a big problem for this industry.

Plywood manufacturers demand that such action should be taken vigorously in every state. So that evaders of GST can be identified and appropriate action can be taken against them. While this will increase the revenue of the government on one hand, it will also pave the way for the formalization of the industry.
